"Go back to Bellevue"
"You are crazy"
"Bitch"
"Shut up or I'll smack you"
"Are you arguing?"
"She is speaking!"
"She is acting out!"
"The bitch thinks she's got it."
"Bitch"
"Hoe"
"What can you say anyway"
And many, many more. What exactly do these epitomes convey? Often, they are used as a means to end the conversation or to disarm the argument of a woman. Why it is that I object to their being used even in the lowest of the circles? Because so long as reality is granted to any of the above expressions (and by allowing them to be anywhere, even if it be somewhere on the other end of the globe we grant them reality) we allow the minimum tolerance thershold. Have you heard of an expression "slippery slope"? From one concession to another Native Americans have lost their land. The trinkets for the land and the trinkets for the freedom ain't a deal. From one concession to another women have lost most of the rights won for them by their foremothers in the 1970's and earlier. When we allow the unconscious belief that an argumentative woman is crazy, that someone defending herself is a bitch, and that woman who does not obey the commanding voice of a male to "shut up" is insane or to be ostracized, we allow the tolerance for such behavior that creates these epitomes, to persevere. When we allow these words we do not simply allo such words, but behind those words stand real powers and real reality we feed with our cowardly consent: "when I get too much, oh man, there is a weapon you could use against me", we seem to say. Irrational hatred of a female, her suppression on the basis of her gender, her miseducation and her deliberate lowering, all that and more are allowed when we decide to "let it go." And when you allow these forces to re-enter, they are not easily chased away, neither do they just come in and sit around, idle. The entering of these concepts and forces means that the reality that you had just narrowed in its sphere, it became less of a human reality, more of a slave reality. So that means I now, too, have to behave and act within narrower sphere. And the sphere dwindles and dwindles. And once you loose the track of the spiral you loose a track of chimera and become lost in the maze. Nowadays, women can't leave the house withou shaving their legs, putting on make up and some skirts. It is a dress code. Unwritten but enforced.
And how about the constant threat and promise of "Bellevue"? Why is it that no man ever gets such a threat? The worst of males may be threatened with the prison or punishment, but his sanity is never attacked nor is questioned. What, ALL the male does, is sane?...Why is it that a male attacks woman's holiest of the holiest, her mind, her sanity, when she seemingly "upsets" him? Who is he to get "upset" in the first place, and how is it that it is allowed so that it is used at the lowest of the levels? Do you not understand that the usage of something as a curse demostrates the subconsious belief in that something or at least a subconscious acceptance? How is it that with all your studies, with all your college education you still can be reduced to a state of a babbling bitch under a threat of Bellivue?
Why is it that men use reason with women as something conditional? Why is it that a normal conversation is discontinued and a woman is spoken down to, addressed in a disrespectful manner as if reason and respect to another human being were something one could take off and put on? Since I speak from observation, I could say: under the pretext of politeness, American male is highly aggressive and unreasonable animal, abusing his female tremendously. When one turns around and refuses to admit one's fault and invokes abuses of degrading terms for women as well as a promise of a nut house, one stops speaking human and begins speaking animal. At that point, no one should pay attention to his words and meaning, but mark to oneself that the person is low, uncultured and not fully human. But instead, even such outbursts of males against females are used as "proofs" against them, as if the "proof" of a slave's fault was his master's anger! Superior power used to drive a point home still? You bet ya!
The relevant on the point reading I highly recommend is a book "The last time I wore a dress". This is a true account of a real life of a girl who was strong, masculine, and actually straight and was sent to a mental insitution because she refused to act weak and dependent, and ...wear a dress. The story conveys how in the hospital they alternately tried to break her mind and train her like a dog, to be a "girl".
She turns a lesbian, with the training of the patriarcy.
