How important is the little boy’s music lessons, art lessons, martial arts lessons! How his development is discussed over the table, his body growth –monitored by both the mother and the father, his mind - adored and encouraged to develop..How he is encouraged to eat his soup to be strong. The little boy is encouraged to be a cosmonaut, to have a tendency for mathematics and study his sciences. He is bought Legos and cars, climbs trees and receives a new car for graduation. The little girl is explained to that she does not like math, and that she likes to play with her dolls, she is also "interested" in studying home economics at college.. This little girl learns to be ashamed of her body when her first “period” – menstruation, arrives. The matter is spoken about with shame and guilt...She lives to be out of her body, ashamed and hateful of it, what the fuck. She is taught to remove her little arm pit and leg hair, a sign of her sexual maturity, while the boy is encouraged to grow that hair everywhere. The girl learns to cook and clean.
The boy gets the job.
The boy makes the money and buys girl’s time and attention.
He sees it as his due to have her dote on him, especially if he “pays money". He expects her to mince his muscles in a friendly and loving massage, to whisper into his ear while she is doing it for pay, and at the end tp be warm and welcoming even into …her own body.
Time passes. The fact that these lessons that were taught gets forgotten but the message of these lessons remains. The girl grows up not to remember the prescriptions and prohibitions, and she smiles and smiles and believes that she is equal. All the while she minces onion and muscles and opens her doors and legs. After all, there are so many examples of women’s freedom and equality out there, right? She must be equal! But she does not observe the contradictions that she allowed to perpetuate. Not extinguished, these smoldering fires of prejudiced and hatred go on to produce the next generation of misogyny.
The girl that makes money has a diffucult time buying a boy and even when, receives a threat or a societal condemnation. Epithets fly onto her either which way.
